A Playlist Made With Love
When Jon and Channy got engaged, their wedding guest list included all of their family and friends and the night was supposed to end with dancing. The venue was booked, the DJ was booked. Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Music is such a big part of Channy & Jon’s life–in fact, Jon spent much of his early career DJing. It was only fitting that we created a wedding playlist that our friends and family could enjoy from their homes.
The Spotify Playlist
Opening Act (Songs To Get People Out On The Dance floor)
This act includes an homage to Wisconsin, Jon’s home state, by including Bodeans, a band from Wisconsin. These are all super fun songs that we know all of our friends and family will enjoy.
- I Wanna Dance with Somebody – Whitney Houston
- Praise You – Fatboy Slim
- Dancing In The Moonlight (2001 Remix) – Toploader
- Time After Time – Cyndi Lauper
- Say Hey I Love You – Michael Franti & Spearhead
- Jessie’s Girl – Rick Springfield
- Closer To Free – Bodeans
- Freedom! 90 – George Michael
- I Melt With You – Modern English
First Slow Song Set
Landslide is a song filled with emotion; we had to include it In the slow songs.
- Landslide – Fleetwood Mac
- God Only Knows – The Beach Boys
Second Act (Growing Up and Beyond)
This act is a hodgepodge of songs that mean something special to us. It starts with some familiar songs that Channy & Jon grew up with and then moves on to a nod to K-Pop, which Jon has been listening to a bunch during COVID. Jon and Channy first heard the song “Body” while at a lounge overlooking The Sydney Opera House and Vivid Sydney. Not to mention, one of the songs Jon loved to play when he used to DJ was Fire Burning. He had a fire engine siren as part of his equipment and would turn it on during the song.
- It Takes Two – Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock
- Dynamite – Taio Cruz
- Ride Wit Me – Nelly City Spud
- Body – Loud Luxury, Brando
- Fire Burning – Sean Kingston
- Kiss and Make Up – Dualists Lipa, BLACKPINK
- Pompeii (Remix) – Bastille, Kat Krazy
Third Act (Guilty Pleasures)
The guilty pleasure act is songs that we guarantee if you’ve been drinking from the start of this playlist, you will be singing out loud by now. Who doesn’t secretly love Justin Bieber? And in case you need to know BSB vs. *NSYNC: Channy says *NSYNC all the way.
- All Things (From Queer Eye) – Betty Who
- King – Years & Years
- Burn – Ellie Goulding
- Escape – Enrique Iglesias
- Doctor Jones – Aqua
- Wannabe – Spice Girls
- Tearin’ Up My Heart – *NSYNC
- Hold On – Justin Bieber
Fourth Act (Sing Out Loud Drinking Songs)
When Jon used to DJ, his dad (accompanying Jon at events) would always want Jon to play two songs: Livin on a Prayer and Sweet Caroline. Jon’s late uncle, Uncle Mike, also loved Neil Diamond. Both songs are in this set.
- Livin On A Prayer – Bon Jovi
- Free Fallin’ – Tom Petty
- Wagon Wheel – Darius Rucker
- Sweet Caroline – Neil Diamond
Second Slow Song Set
Jon chose slow songs that spark a lot of feeling for him, and both of these songs will want to make you hold your loved one close and perhaps serenade them. FYI: both Jon & Channy have terrible singing voices.
- Iris – The Goo Goo Dolls
- Stand By Me – Ben E. King
Fifth Act (Heat Up The Dance floor)
These songs make us think of tropical weather and the pool. Jon loves hanging out by the pool, and Channy has been warming up (pardon the pun) to lying by the pool. We’re hoping our future house has a pool, and we will definitely have these songs on our pool party playlist.
- Dessert – Dawin
- Danza Kuduro – Dom Omar, Lucenzo
- Temperature – Sean Paul
- Despacito – Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, Justin Beiber
- Ai Se Eu Te Pego – Michael Telo
- Havana (Remix) – Camila Cabello, Daddy Yankee
Sixth Act (Dancing with Swagger)
Jon wanted another throwback with some songs that he and Channy grew up with. Truth be told, this playlist is missing more than a few songs that were cut to their danceability.
- Truth Hurts – Lizzo, AB6IX
- California Love – 2Pac, Roger, Dr. Dre
- The Way You Move – Outkast, Sleepy Brown
- Get Low – Ying Yang Twins, Lil Jon & East Side Boyz
- Crazy In Love – Beyonce, JAY-Z
- Side to Side – Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj
Seventh Act (Hearts Racing)
You probably know most of these songs, but these fast BPM songs are meant to get our friends and family dancing and jumping (sorry downstairs neighbors everywhere). This playlist also includes a few sentimental songs to Jon and Channy. Jon & Channy’s first concert together was to OneRepublic (Jon’s favorite band). This is the first OneRepublic song on the playlist. As mentioned, Jon’s been into Kpop during COVID, so a BTS song was necessary. And, of course, we have to include a song about UCLA since Jon goes to UCLA Anderson, but neither one of us drive a Maserati (listen to the song if you don’t get the reference).
- Cut To The Feeling – Carly Rae Jepsen
- Everything – Switch Disco
- If I Lose Myself – OneRepublic, Alesso
- This Is Me (Dave Aude Remix) – Keala Settle, The Greatest Showman Ensemble, Dave Aude
- Boom Boom Boom Boom!! – Vengaboys
- Letting Go (Cry Just A Little) – Qwote, Mr. Worldwide
- Without You – David Guetta, Usher
- Dynamite – BTS
- Pursuit of Happiness (Steve Aoki Remix) – Kid Cudi
- UCLA – RL Grime, 24Hrs
Eighth Act (Last Set)
These songs are repurposed from when Jon used to DJ. For the last song, Home by Philip Phillips, Jon used to have every guest remaining to form a circle around the bride and groom to show their love and send the bride and groom on their way. It was a powerful thing for everyone in the room. You could feel the love. We would’ve loved to have done this at our wedding.
- We Found Love – Rihanna, Calvin Harris
- And We Danced – Macklemore
- Closing Time – Semisonic
- Home – Philip Phillips
Ninth Act (Encore)
Silence: 20 seconds. Just enough to make you all wanting more. Be sure to replicate that silence at home before continuing with “Everybody Wants To Party,” which samples funky town. This act includes another amazing OneRepublic song with lyrics that resonate with Channy & Jon about getting older and having dreams. The playlist ends with how it started – Whitney Houston.
- Everybody Wants To Party – Dubdogz, JORD
- Counting Stars – OneRepublic
- Higher Love – Kygo, Whitney Houston
We hope you all have a chance to enjoy this dance playlist from wherever you are and wish you good health.
